You Think You've Forgiven Them. Jesus Set a Higher Bar.

How many times should you forgive someone? Peter asked Jesus that exact question — and he thought he was being generous. What Jesus said back wasn't a bigger number. It was the end of the counting. Most of us have a working definition of forgiveness that sounds like this: I stopped bringing it up. I'm civil. I moved on. And that's real restraint — but it isn't the same as closing the account. If you can still quote the sentence, still name the month, still add new offenses to an old page, the ledger is open. In Matthew 18, Jesus tells a story about a man who was forgiven an impossible debt and then went out looking for someone who owed him a little. Not a chance encounter — he went and found him. He didn't leave the ledger behind. He just moved it into his own hands.
