You Know the Prodigal Son. You Missed Why the Father Runs.

What does the Prodigal Son really teach us about God? Most of us know the story — a son takes his inheritance, blows it all, and crawls home. But there's one moment in Luke 15 that almost everyone reads right past, and it changes everything: the second the father sees him coming… he runs. We've been reading this whole parable backwards. It was never really about the son who ran away. It's about the Father who runs to him — while he's still "a great way off," still filthy, still rehearsing the speech about earning his way back as a hired servant. The father never even lets him finish. Grace gets there first. And Jesus doesn't stop at the party. There's a second son — the older one, who never left, who did everything right, and who's just as lost standing in the field as his brother was in the far country. One is lost through rebellion. The other through self-righteousness. Jesus told this story to religious people who were sure they'd earned their place. He's still telling it to us.
