Four movements. Each one teaches you something specific about what the Refiner is doing — and each one is heavier than the one before it. This is Part 3 of The Fire That Doesn't Destroy — a five-part series on what the refining fire of Scripture is actually doing in the hardest seasons of your life. In this chapter: MALACHI 3:2-3 — "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." The word "sit" is not passive. God does not turn up the heat and leave the room. He stays for the entire process. And He knows exactly when to remove you. 1 PETER 1:6-7 — "These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith — of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire — may result in praise, glory and honor." Faith refined by fire is worth more than gold that perishes. This is not a consolation prize. It is the most valuable thing a human life can produce. ISAIAH 48:10 — "I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction." The Hebrew word for furnace here is "kur" — a smelting furnace built for one purpose: separating precious metal from what does not belong. The intensity of the fire is never arbitrary. It is proportionate to the purpose. JOB 23:10 — "He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold." Job cannot feel God. Cannot find God anywhere in his experience. And declares this. Not if. When. That is faith under refinement. DANIEL 3 — Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Not a hair singed. Robes not scorched. No smell of fire on them. The only thing the fire destroyed were the ropes that were binding them.
